With various stands of hemp and cannabis now being legal to be homegrown around the world, many are attracted to the idea of growing their own cannabis plants. And for good reason. Not only do cannabis plants have a lot of applications for medical and recreational use, but learning how to look after cannabis plants as they grow can be a very engaging hobby.

If you’ve been thinking about growing cannabis seeds but are worried the process is too difficult, here are some beginner tips that will help make your life easier when you get started.

## Items

### 1. [Choose easy seeds](https://listium.com/@Schauer/74371/top-3-cannabis-growing-tips-for-beginners/0/choose-easy-seeds)

- Notes: There are tons of different strains of cannabis out there, and they differ from each other in a variety of crucial ways. One of the differences between cannabis strains is how easy they are to grow and maintain, with some seeds being much more beginner friendly than others. A good example of this is the Northern Lights cannabis seeds, as this \[BudChampion article\](https://www.budchampion.com/strain/northern-lights/) explains.

### 2. [Grow outdoors (if possible)](https://listium.com/@Schauer/74371/top-3-cannabis-growing-tips-for-beginners/1/grow-outdoors-if-possible)

- Notes:
  > Under the right circumstances, growing cannabis outdoors is both easier and cheaper than doing it indoors. That is assuming your local climate can support the healthy growth of the plant, and assuming you have enough space to plant some seeds.
  >
  > If you’re going with the outdoor route, check with other local growers to see what seeds they are using and which they’d recommend to a beginner. You can’t choose based solely on your country’s climate; your local microclimate is also a factor.

### 3. [Be smart about irrigation](https://listium.com/@Schauer/74371/top-3-cannabis-growing-tips-for-beginners/2/be-smart-about-irrigation)

- Notes:
  > Cannabis needs water to grow, but how much water the plant needs changes as they grow. And beginners are prone to irrigating too much or too little, which can end up killing the plant.
  >
  > Luckily, there is an app for that; there are plenty of apps that can keep track of your local weather to help you figure out how often you should irrigate. Or you can go one step further and buy an automatic irrigation system — the ones meant for outdoor use can also keep track of soil humidity so they won’t come on after it has rained.
