- Notes: Mr. Slate is Fred and Barney's boss at the gravel pit who fires and rehires Fred throughout the series. He has an ever-changing first name and is the founder of the Slate Rock and Gravel Company, which is still in business two million years later, operated by his descendant George Slate the Eighty-thousandth. In the early episodes, he was known as Mr. Rockhead and was a supervisor of Fred, but the two characters eventually switched identities and the shorter character faded away.
