Built like a T-34 (tank). The Sovtek Mig-50 head is the kid brother to the higher gain Mig-60 and prodigal son of the 100 watt Mig-100. Thick cleans to full bodied crunch when pushed. Reminiscent of old an old Bassman or Plexi. Channel 1 is big with plenty of headroom. While Channel 2 is brighter with more of that vintage Marshall flavor. Not the scooped mids and high gain of modern Marshalls, more along the lines of a JTM45 or JMP. This is an amp that needs to be played and played loud. Don’t be shy. ### 4. Achieving the beautifully organic and vibrant overdrive which is their trademark, and can only be done in one way - crank 'em up! The result is pure, majestic tone uncluttered by unnecessary circuitry. This produces a big, round, warm, sustain, full of classic character. With chord work you get a bark and percussive attack with a natural sounding breakup, which allows each note to ring out in a glorious musical crunch. > > \*\*Mix two channels together for a totally unique sound\*\*With the Marshall 1987XL, you can mix the two channels together by connecting a short, screened patch lead between the second input of channel one and the first input of channel two. The head dates to 1973 from the serial number, and comes complete with four original Mullard EL34 valves, a mismatch set of ECC83s, both original transformers, and a rather beautiful circuit board. Cosmetically there are a few scrapes and bumps throughout, but nothing at all significant. It is one of the nicest we’ve had in for a long time for sure. It’s got a whole lot of mojo! The two 12AX7’s in Channel 1 create a parallel-triode circuit with interactive bass and treble. The one EF86 in Channel 2 consists of a high-gain pentode coupled to a six-position tone switch. Outright benefits include quick dial-in of new tones and an easy return to the settings you prefer.  Also “high treble” cut control, master volume, with a bypass feature that offers flexible control of the power amp section. The power amp is fed by a 12AX7 phase inverter, which drives four EL84 power tubes. The rectifier circuit gives you the flexibility of using one 5AR4 for a quick attack or you can use two 5V4’s for a smooth, round response. Other professional features include an effects loop, half power-mode switch (a conservative 30 watts switching to 15 watts), output impedance selector (4, 8, 16 ohms) and a speaker phase-reverse switch. ### 10.
