Budapest is rich in architecture and history, which is why it's such a popular destination for tourists. It was named after the Hungarian capital Budapest, and was founded by the Romans in 1235. In 1541 it became the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary and in 1867 it became the capital of Austria-Hungary.
