- Description: huzenji Lake was discovered in 782 by a priest named Shōdō when his group succeeded in climbing Mt. Nantai. Considered sacred, the mountain was closed to women, horses, and cows until 1872. In the middle of the Meiji period and early Showa period, many European embassies built vacation houses around the lake. The former Italian villa has been renewed and is now open to visitors. Other sites around the lake include Futara Shrine built in 790, Chuzenji Temple, and Kegon Falls. In spring, cherry blossoms are blooming. In summer, people can escape the heat and enjoy bird watching and hiking. In fall of course, there are the famous beautiful autumn leaves and in winter there is the Snow and Ice Festival, plus winter sports like skiing and skating.

  > The Kinugawa Line Kudari River Cruise is a ride down Kinugawa River in flat bottomed, wooden boats. The cruises lasts about 40 minutes and travel through mostly undeveloped stretches of the river, passing rock formations along the way that resemble various animals and objects. Humorous explanations are provided by the boatmen in Japanese. Shoes are removed on board of the boats.

  > While the Kinugawa River is relatively calm, with only minor rapids along the way, cruises may be canceled in case of heavy rain, strong wind or extreme changes in the water level of the river. The wooden boats used in the cruises are characteristic of the Kinugawa Onsen area and some have been converted into outdoor baths at local ryokan and public baths.

- Description: Kisuge-daira is a highland located about 8 km north of Nikko City at altitudes between 1,300 m to 1,600 m with a field of different kinds of flowers from spring to summer and early autumn. The large community of broad dwarf day lily (nikko kisuge) flowers is superb, dying the entire field yellow from late June to mid-July. From Komaruyama Lookout, reached after climbing the 1,445-step stairway called Tenku Kairo (corridor in the sky), you can command a panoramic view of the Kanto Plain, as well as Mount Fuji, Tokyo Skytree, and on a clear day, the Pacific Ocean.

  > Kegon Waterfall is the only exit for the waters of Lake Chuzenji. It can be seen from a free observation platform that is easily accessible on foot, as well as from a paid platform at the base of the falls. The paid platform is accessed via a 100 meter deep elevator and offers the more impressive views. The sight of Kegon Waterfall in combination with Lake Chuzenji can be enjoyed from Akechidaira Observatory, which is accessible by ropeway from Akechidaira Plateau.

  > Kegon Waterfall is also a popular autumn color spot. The trees around the waterfall are usually most colorful from mid to late October. In the winter, the waterfall is impressive as well, when it freezes almost completely solid.
