The front half is restored with period furniture and there are helpful staff in period costume who describe a lot of things you wouldn't realise just by looking (unless you are a history buff I guess). The rear (stables) is a display room about James Cook's life and expeditions. $18 for a family. Well worth it if you have the time to listen to the guides and read all the displays. Check out the domed great reading room and head up to the levels of exhibitions around the edge of the dome roof or great views onto the floor. The Head Chef there is brilliant, the atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and even better outside on the deck overlooking the stunning estate grounds.
