Hailey and Detective Fincher Garland visit the app's headquarters to investigate, but the owner and his business partner refuse to reveal any records. However, Miranda's last known whereabouts are shared with Hailey, and she and her boyfriend Jonas follow the lead until they find Miranda's body.
The autopsy results link Miranda's case to six other missing women, one of whom was found dead off the same hiking trail. Hailey realizes that all six women were using the same dating app, and with the help of her friend Sabrina, who also uses the app, she creates a dating profile to track down the men who went on dates with Miranda. After a couple of dead ends, Hailey meets one of Miranda's dates, Roger, who tries to lure her to his trunk before Fincher scares him off. Upon reviewing security footage with her detective allies, Hailey identifies the individual shouting at the missing teacher as her ex-boyfriend. When Hailey and one of the detectives answer an alarm at the teacher's house, they encounter the ex-boyfriend brandishing a firearm, who then absconds with a crucial envelope from the abode.
As Hailey persists in her quest for answers, a mysterious figure from her late fiancé's past arrives in town for a reunion. The man, a successful real estate developer, becomes embroiled in the case when the teacher's body is discovered at one of his construction sites, and the ex-boyfriend's lifeless body is found nearby, clutching a tattered piece of paper. As she works on the case, Hailey reconnects with college friends and counsels a young woman who has suffered similar losses to her own. Her boyfriend, a medical examiner, reports that the dealer's cause of death was poisoning and that his death certificate had disappeared from the hospital.
