It’s not uncommon for modern smartwatches to come packed with a GPS and cellular connection. This means they can replace a smartphone as a device that allows parents to stay in touch with their kids. This is good because smartwatches are much more limited, which means kids won’t be tempted to spend all day staring at the device’s screen.
At least one smartwatch manufacturer has already developed a technology that warns parents when their kid takes off their smartwatch. And various brands have developed robust parental control suites to help limit how and when children can use their watches. These can be used for safety purposes and to make the device a less disruptive presence in the child’s life, especially when they are at school.
