Refractory materials are not universal products. Steel ladles, electric arc furnaces, heating furnaces, and copper smelting furnaces all operate at high temperatures, but their slag conditions, atmospheres, abrasion, and temperature changes can be very different.

So it is not enough to look at how many projects a supplier has completed. What matters more is whether they have experience with similar industries, furnace types, and lining areas. Experience under similar operating conditions usually reduces the risk of choosing the wrong material.

Chemical composition, bulk density, apparent porosity, and cold crushing strength are all important, but one test report does not tell the whole story.

Consistency between batches matters even more. If the first batch performs well but later batches vary because of changes in raw materials or firing control, lining life can be affected. Stable production control is often more important than having one particularly high performance value.

Spalling, cracking, or rapid corrosion does not always mean the material itself is defective. Bricklaying, castable water addition, curing, heat-up procedures, and furnace operation can all affect lining performance.

Technical support should therefore go beyond product selection before the order. A useful supplier should also be able to analyze problems after installation and suggest adjustments related to the material, construction, or operating conditions.

Many refractory projects are tied to fixed maintenance schedules. A delay of only a few days can affect the entire shutdown and restart plan.

Besides normal production capacity, buyers should also check lead times for special sizes, shaped bricks, and custom formulations. For export orders, packaging, pallets, moisture protection, container loading, and transportation experience are also important. Even qualified products can be damaged if these details are not handled properly.

Refractory materials should not be compared only by price per ton. A cheaper product may cost more in the long run if it has a shorter service life and needs more frequent repair or replacement.

A more practical comparison is to look at how long the material can last under the same conditions, how often maintenance is required, and how much installation and shutdown will cost. For critical lining areas, service life is often more important than the initial purchase price.
