Pro-Line Pro-MT 4x4
A 10th scale Monster Truck platform with 8th scale buggy running gear, that sounds like a dream come true! Pro-Line releases the Pro MT 4X4, a pro spec MT with Mod 1 gears, directly from the 8th scale racing scene. This could very well be the most strongly constructed monstertruck in 10th scale that has been ever built. Prepare to be able to drop an 8th scale electrics system of your choice into this insane basher. I think this is one of the most important releases of 2017, it shows that the future is bright for Pro-Line Racing. The specs on this thing are jaw dropping, and seeing the chassis up close only confirms all the claims. The big bore shocks, over dimensioned bearings, bimetal chassis, large diffs, huge 17mm wheels hexes, it all screams BULLETPROOF! More information about the Pro-Line Pro MT 4X4 can be found here: https://www.prolineracing.com/kits/pr…
You can join the Pro-Line Pro MT 4X4 Owners Group on FaceBook here: https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?…
The steering servo I´m using is the ProTek RC 170SBL, which can be found here: https://bit.ly/3nvmtor
To power the Pro MT I´m using a Castle Mamba Monster X, with a 1515 2200kV motor, a sensored 8th scale setup that will give this truck plenty of go while also having some bottom end control, for some very smooth wheelie action: https://bit.ly/3iLbhjX
To supply all the juice needed to get this monstertruck up to some insane antics, I'm using a 4s 5000mAh battery from Venom: https://bit.ly/2GJC2Z4
The radio system is a HiTec Lynx 4S, a real cool looking and pretty underrated 4 channel pistol grip radio with a very fresh design. You can find more info about it in the following link: https://bit.ly/33Hmmyc

RC Paint Tutorials
Time to customize my Vaterra Ascender. I love the classic Bronco body and the minute I got the truck I knew I wanted to turn it into an ICON Bronco, with a hint of Prerunner. Baja inspired, tough, and classy. The first time I have ever seen an Icon truck on screen was in an episode of Jay Leno's Garage. Here is a link to that particular video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4H7H… I think the vehicle shows great craftsmanship combined with an undeniable love for classic trucks. Icon upgrades all the running gear on these trucks, completely rebuilding them to modern spec, without sacrificing that rugged, classic Bronco feel and look. Certain parts can't be purchased for scale trucks, but a few simple touches in the paint planning make the result look fairly close. Get creative and put some think work into your paint and design to see if you can perhaps also use a few simple tricks to get your RC closer to what you have in mind. For the panel lines in this build I cut some strips of masking tape to .5mm width, before backing them with some black. The result is a nice extra detail. It finally happened, Axial Racing got their hands on the Monster Jam license! First out of the gate is the Grave Digger, the most famous Monster Truck to ever hit the arenas. A long pedigree, lots of family history, and an iconic look make this the Monster Truck that always gets people on their feet in the stands. Sure Traxxas has made an attempt to replicate the Monster Jam feel when they had the license to replicate these awesome machines in tenth scale, but Axial actually hits it out of the park with this solid axle based SMT10. You want a realistic driving RC MT, and don't want to mess around putting two Yeti rear ends together and building one from scratch? No need to, Axial did it for us.
The truck comes RTR, meaning you get everything you need except for batteries and a charger. Don't expect any crazy speeds from the brushed setup that comes stock, but do count on a lot of fun for RC enthusiasts of all ages.
I'm going to beat the TRUCK out of this thing!
RTR bodies all look the same. In this video I show you how easy it is to transform the look of your box-stock Axial Racing SCX10 version 2 and turn it into something more personal.

Some info about the Axial SCX102: http://www.axialracing.com/products/a…
The SCX10 has been the vehicle of choice for scale trail fun! For the past 8 years the SCX10 has been the staple vehicle platform for scale trail enthusiasts around the world. Axial was one of the first companies to embrace R/C rock crawling and the first to mass produce a scale trail truck. Axial has been watching trends, tirelessly testing, and experimenting to create the next evolution of the SCX10. The SCX10 II is the culmination of many years of development, furthering aesthetic realism while maximizing trail performance. The next generation of SCX10 is here!
The original AX10 axle was developed in 2007 for Axial’s first kit, the AX90001 Axial AX10 Scorpion RC Comp 10 - 1/10th Scale Rock Crawler - Electric Kit. In 2008, the AX10 axle was used in the SCX10 chassis, which paved the way for the scale trail scene.
While developing the next iteration of axles such as the AR60, we started thinking about what kind of axle would be more suited for the future of the SCX10. Our design of a new axle needed to feature three key points. First, we wanted the axle housing to visually quench the thirst of scale enthusiasts. Second, we needed to create a gear set with the technical attributes to overcome the torque twist that is often associated with smaller gear sets. Third, the axle itself needed to be durable.
After seven years of utilizing the original AX10 axle and two years of development, Axial is proud to introduce the industry's first high pinion gear set in our newly developed AR44 axle! The next chapter of the Axial SCX10 begins with true technological engineering and scale realism!
Today I'm painting one of the most recent releases by ARRMA, the Arrma Nero 6S BLX 4WD Brushless Monster Truck.
SIMPLE can be very effective. Minimal use of colours and graphics can be all that's required to make your car look completely different.
With the Diff Brian technology, which allows you to switch between 4 different driving modes (Blast, Climb, Wheelie and Drift) this is a very versatile car that should be able to offer a kick on a variety of different surfaces.
What caught my eye instantly the moment pictures of this vehicle emerged online was the enormous amount of ingenuity and design work invested in developing the chassis. While the Nero does have a traditional twin vertical plate layout, combining it with push rod suspension, easy access paneling for convenience in maintaining the truck and a choice selection of aluminium upgraded parts in the areas where the strain is the biggest, it certainly sets itself apart from the competition.
The Arrma Nero comes ready to run, equipped with a Tactic 2.4 Ghz radio that has a decent overall feel to it and clear instructions to make sure how to get started and how to trouble shoot it in case of any issues.
In the constantly growing range in vehicles offered by Arrma, the Nero is the very definition of how Arrma steps it up in terms of looks and engineering by offering a vehicle that in my opinion redefines what can be combined in an 8th scale basher platform.
Today I'm painting up my Axial SCX10 version 2.0 Jeep Cherokee body in a beer theme. When I visited Castle Creations back in June I also had the pleasure of kicking back at this amazing underground bar, with a brewery attached to it. This Irish subterranean pub is called O'Malley's and is located in Weston Missouri. If you find yourself thirsty and in the area, go check it out.
It's fucking awesome. http://www.westonirish.com
I love building kits! Axial finally came out with the kit version of the extremely popular and successful Axial Yeti Score. In this video I am going over the built car.
The information below as copied from the Axial Racing website:
Now in kit form, the Yeti™ SCORE® Trophy Truck® is a purposely engineered desert truck with a solid rear axle and independent front suspension. Make no bones about it, this is not a short course truck nor is it designed for the sugar coated and manicured racetracks of R/C. This Trophy Truck is designed for the roughest of conditions and REAL DIRT. We beg for the dirt and rocks to be brought back to off-road! There are reasons why full size Trophy Trucks feature the four link suspension design; durability, capability, and improved forward bite without sacrificing suspension travel. Full-size Trophy Trucks inspired the distinct aesthetic and technical elements of this truck, right down to the solid rear axle. The retro inspired body features design queues from a 1960’s era roof-line, classic 1970’s wheel arches and glass shapes from the 1980’s. Giving this kit an extra bit of modern contrast comes in the form of fluorescent orange Method 105 wheels. This kit version will accept standard 1/10th scale brushed and brushless 4-pole systems and most major stick pack batteries. Precision machined aluminum shocks are standard equipment and deliver smooth suspension movement for consistent handling.
Today I'm painting up two shells, both for Axial Yeti's, but one is for the slightly larger Yeti XL.

Today a look at all the simple, low cost items I use to paint my RC cars. From the sponges I use to my lamp, blades, tape, actual paint, I'm going over each and every item to hopefully give you a bit more insight in how simple items and the use of all of your creativity can make you end up with a completely custom looking RC car.
I'm continuing the paintwork on my Axial Yeti XXL. Today I'm using LACE to create a snake skin effect. Along with a crazy power system, a lot of custom made parts and a pretty unique setup, this car of course also needs to have a paint scheme to match. I start off by putting on the logos of all the companies whose parts I have used to create this vehicle. I want the car to look classy, and a bit understated so the paint needs to match the visible chassis parts as I start off. That means champagne anodised aluminium, silver, black and white as main colours with perhaps a dash of blue to brighten things up.

The electronics I'm running are a proven set up: the Castle Creations Mamba Monster X 2200KV combo. Axial has put a similar setup, although rebranded, in the Yeti XL RTR, and after seeing several videos of it running I am thoroughly impressed. The Yeti is a large rig, with considerable weight, and a high torque system like this one will make it capable on a lot of different surfaces and in a variety of circumstances.
http://www.castlecreations.com/produc…
After having bad luck with a few of my more recent LiPos by Venom, I'm switching to a rather new brand called Dinogy Batteries. Dinogy offers a ton of different packs, for all sorts of applications, and for every budget. The Yeti XL will be tested on 4S first, so I opted for two Dinogy 2S 6500 mAh 65C packs to get the job done. These specs are impressive if you consider the cost, and I'm pretty confident they'll be up to the task, as Dinogy has been building a reputation for themselves in demanding applications.

The steering servo I selected is fairly middle-of-the-road, I installed a HiTec HS-7954SH. It delivers some decent torque, good speed and has good hold power, basically everything required to get those huge rims to point in the right direction.

I'm finishing up my Axial Racing Yeti 1/10th scale kit to prepare it for some trails in the forest during autumn and winter. I wanted to have some grippy, realistic looking tires to ensure I can transfer all the power to the slick, rocky and rough surfaces that surround my home.
Pitbull RC Tires offer a wide range of realistic offriading tires and combined with the amazing machined aluminium rims they really top off the unique look I was going for with my Yeti without compromising performance.

Since I get a lot of questions about fading, here is a short clip from an upcoming video. I usually cut these shots, but they seem to make people think fading is harder than it actually is. There is not much to it. I even had a change of heart about the colours towards the end. I hope it shows that you just need to give it a try. :)

Now in kit form, the Yeti™ XL monster buggy kit is a skillfully engineered truck with a solid rear axle and independent front suspension. Its distinct aesthetic and technical elements were inspired by full-size desert trucks. Its strategically engineered design supplies bashing stamina while delivering a high level of technical rock racing abilities without compromise in either category. This kit version will accept standard 1/8th scale brushless 4-pole systems and most industry standard stick packs. Precision Icon Vehicle Dynamics aluminum shocks are standard equipment and deliver smooth suspension movement for consistent handling. We've also included a rear sway bar (medium, 3.4mm), 3mm aluminum lower link plates, aluminum 17mm hex hubs and nuts, adjustable steel turnbuckles, and officially licensed 3.8 Falken WildPeak M/T tires in our S30 compound.
I'm throwing together a few parts from different brands to create a Trophy Truck on a budget. The goal of this quick build is to see if with a limited amount of cost involved I can still achieve a more scale look than what I would have when using a regular shortcourse setup. The result will be a more detailed vehicle that will not hold up to bashing as well as a regular SCT would, but makes up for that by adding a lot in scale realism.
I start off by using the Killerbody interior that I purchased at Asiatees, a cool looking item for a decent price, on which I did a video in the past. It comes fully finished and the fit is quite universal, so you can instantly skip ahead to detail the rest of your truck
http://www.asiatees.com/display?Kille…
The chassis shown to test fit the interior is the ProLine Pro2, use the code "HemiStorm10" when you check out your order at the ProLine Racing website for an instant 10% discount on your purchase. Other items used are the 6085-00 light bar setup for crawlers and short course trucks, and some of the PoLine Racing accessries as well as a Ford Raptor SCT bodyshell.

The spare wheel carriers used in the setup as well as the Exo Terro or Yeti rear light bar can be found on the Axial Racing website:

The inspiration for the paint on this build and the overall look comes from Brenthel Industries:

This build was inspired by OneCharlyTwo, who I follow on Instagram. He is a very creative guy who has a lot of cool builds going on. Make sure you check out his profile at:

Today I'm laying down some simple paint on my Axial Yeti Kit, showing you how some subtle fading and the use of contrast can go a long way in giving your car a custom and detailed look.

For my latest build I've decided to use the Ford Mustang "Hoonicorn" RTR as used by Ken Block in Gymkhana7 as an inspiration. I will be using a Mustang Shelby GT500 body for the purpose, and despite the shape of the bodywork not being accurate, I think this will be a very fun build.
The chassis used is a FG Sportsline 2WD 530mm one, outfitted with a BZM 28.5 TT engine, which puts out more than enough power to do burnouts and propel the car to some insane speeds, even with the stock gearing. The car has a custom built line locker system, a one-off servo setup and tons of other features which can be found in the playlist in which this video is placed. The diecast v8 engine is great for looks, and a tutorial on how to adapt one for your ride is also something which I explained in one of the videos.
The Shelby body which I'm using is discontinued, and painting it up is going to be a lot of work since it doesn't have a clear overspray film on the outside of the shell, which means that a whole lot of masking is required to make this ride look like the Hoonicorn.
Only on very rare occasions do I paint up shells for other people. Enter a rare occasion today! I got contacted by the owner and founder of CowRC, to paint up a shell for the Team Associated SC10 that they will be giving away for the 2014 Christmas Contest. Their usual painter wasn't able to complete the request this time around due to circumstances, and so I got asked to help out last minute.
The shell I'm painting up for the SC10 is a Proline Racing EVO SC body, which fits a wide variety of 10th scale shortcourse trucks. Use the "HemiStorm10" discount code to receive an instant 10% discount on all your orders from Proline Racing.

My friends at CowRC have made me an awesome custom work surface, made from a magnetic material. They can make almost anything you want, your desired size, background, finish on edges, included parts trays, you name it! It ensures the table stays free from grease and scratches, and avoids me losing any hardware while assembling or maintaining my RC's. I have seen the name CowRC come by numerous times in the past, and was surprised to find that they make a huge range of products for RC enthusiasts like myself.
Apart from the "Custom Screw Catcher Tabletop & Parts Trays" which I highlight, they can also supply you with various lubricants and other gear that you need. CowRC does not simply fabricate these items: they are right in the centre of the RC community, promoting a variety of aspects in the hobby, by showcasing drifters, scalers, crawlers and even largescale vehicles. Having a non-biased attitude, and trying to get people to cross over between the different segments of the hobby to keep things interesting, they support the hobby in a way which I agree 100% on.
I'm using the 3336-00 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon body, intended for the Axial SCX10 for this project.
I'm starting from a kit version of the Exo Terra, while the car used in the blog is a RTR. There are a few differences to keep in mind: The RTR does not come with an interior, the moulded engine in the back or the Griffin radiator, and it doesn't have a lightbar. All these parts do come with the kit, so taking a kit as a base will save you quite a bit of work since most of the ingredients are already available.
I found I could use a bare minimum of parts to make this conversion possible. The only thing that's truly necessary is the Traxxas battery brace with the metal posts, parts number #3727A
Click the following link to be directed to the Axial blog post where the Exo Terra gets a new appearance:

Time for a huge upgrade in 10th scale SC Trucking! I have gotten myself a Pro-Line PRO-2 Short Course kit (4001-00). After using my HPI Blitzes as a base for my shortcourse truck paintjob for a while, I found them rather limiting in terms of body options. And seeing as they are a few years old right now, I figured it was time for an update.
I'm installing the Pro-Line Racing Buggy Conversion (6254-00) on my Pro 2 SC truck chassis, giving it a total different look.
http://prolineracing.com/performance-…
PS61 is the Tamiya Orange metallic. I won't forget that from now, haha!
The following information comes directly from their website:
"This is a Pro-Line PRO-2 Performance Buggy Conversion Kit. Pro-Line now has the Ultimate Accessory for your PRO-2 SC Truck that allows you to convert from a Truck to a Buggy! This PRO-2 Buggy Conversion Kit will give you 2 distinct vehicles that can be converted back and forth all on the same platform. The PRO-2 Buggy is styled after a single seat Class 1 Desert Buggy for a tough Off-Road look unique to the Short Course Buggy class. Pro-Line added many scale details to the PRO-2 Buggy to please even the most die-hard scale builder."
Over the years Pro-Line Racing has brought a lot of aftermarket options to the tenth scale shortcourse racing and bashing scene. Among them are the PowerStroke shocks which I use on my Axial Exo Terra and various other items like the ProTrac suspension arms. Not only do they look cool, they also add a lot of variety to the way you can set up your vehicle on the track. Last year Pro-Line annouced the release of the PRO-2 SC Kit. I'm a big fan of building kits, and seeing all upgrades were now wrapped up in a huge package deal, because that's basically what it is, I could not resist getting my hands on one.
After assembling the car I was impressed with the level of quality and finish I experienced in this kit. when looking at the finished chassis it is clear that this SC is a total different breed than the Blitz that I used to run. Everything is lightweight, thoroughly engineered and well layed out. The ground clearance is massive, with huge suspension travel, and no risk of bottoming out on landing. And although it seems to have such a high stance, the low center gravity chassis feel well balanced and more than sturdy enough to handle a high power motor.
I'm painting up my ProLine Blockbuster shell (3426-00). I want to fully customize it, not just by giving it a paintjob, but also by altering the look by adding a roof. Everything will be explained, as well as some in depth information on how to paint lettering and logos on your RC ride. I use simple, basic materials to do my paintjobs, such as rattlecans and tape.
Below some information about the Pro-2 chassis on which this shell is mounted:

And seeing as they are a few years old right now, I figured it was time for an update.
Last year Pro-Line announced the release of the PRO-2 SC Kit. I'm a big fan of building kits, and seeing all upgrades were now wrapped up in a huge package deal, because that's basically what it is, I could not resist getting my hands on one.
The build went very smooth. You start from a ready assembled chassis plate on which the differential housing, servomount and servosaver, battery tray and sideguards are all pre-installed. All that is left to do is assemble and install the shocktowers, shocks and A-arms and you're all set to add your own ingredients. The kit comes very complete with some clear instructions on how to put it together, the only items you need to add (as always) are a steering servo, ESC/motor combo, a receiver a battery and a pinion gear.
And although it seems to have such a high stance, the low center gravity chassis feels well balanced and more than sturdy enough to handle a high power motor.
Time for a visual update! Simplicity is key in this paintjob, in which I explain you some basics like fading, flat clear coating and how a simple design can be effective.
The HPI Octane, being a new platform with so much new technology, is of course something we need to get used to. As there is no available online trouble shooting, the first buyers (like myself) will have to write the additional manual ourselves. Rather than being labelled "guinea pig" on such an early release, I would consider us who obtained the first vehicles "explorers". This car has tremendous potential, once broken in it is everything I had hoped it to be an more: it's LOUD, obnoxious, loves to crush stuff, has a true monstertruck style of driving, without it ever appearing off balance on higher speeds.
This car may not be for everyone, but if you have the knowledge, the patience, and are curious about the future of monster truck RC's, this is the car for you. Expect a few not-so-raw videos in the weeks to come, testing, bashing and racing this car on several different surfaces, giving it the abuse it was meant to handle.
My aim is to give you honest, unbiased information, I'm not sponsored in any way. All I want is the hobby to progress.
Painting time on the Baja Bug for the Axial Exo Terra! I'm replicating a Hot Wheels paintjob on my 10th scale RC car. Adding a few custom touches, I try to make the Hot Wheels theme flow together nicely with the base I have for this body. I'm sticking to primary colours, with a few tiny twists here and there. The windows on this shell will not be tinted, to ensure visibility of the interior.
My buddy Adumb from www.bajaaddicts.com posted a link to the Axial Racing blog on the forum a long time ago, where a Pro-Line VW Baja shell for the Traxxas Slash gets adapted to fit the rollcage of the Axial Exo Terra. A real appealing look, and after having used my Axial in the original shape for almost a year, it's time I put this conversion to the test, and make a few tweaks of my own.
Opposed to the vehicle built in the blog, I found I could use a bare minimum of parts to make this conversion possible. The only thing that's truly necessary is the Traxxas battery brace with the metal posts, parts number #3727A

Today I'm painting up a true scale Ford F-150 Raptor SVT body by ProLine Racing (3389-00). Although this body is originally intended for the Traxxas Slash, the Slash 4x4 and the Team Associated SC10, a few minor alterations made it fit to my HPI Blitz as well.
I explain how in a few simple steps you can paint this thing up in a way that will make it stand out in a crowd. I used a few fades in mine, but you don't have to do that to get a good result. Patience and good preparation are the key to a successful paintjob.
Inspired by Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTA V) I'm painting up a new Proline Flo Tek body for my HPI Blitz. These shells can be used on almost any type of 10th scale shortcourse truck, and have a couple of pretty cool aerodynamic features. I try to show you how simple materials and design choices can enable you to easily create a custom look that will stand out on the track.
I love the gameplay of this latest version, Los Santos looks fantastic and after I finished story mode, I'm now very eager to give the online multiplayer feature a try. San Andreas will have another citizen this winter!
I'm working on my next project, another largescale onroad car. It's an FG Sportsline 2WD 530. This car is going to be turned into a 1970 Dodge Challenger with classic paint.
I'm waiting for my electronics and the big horsepower engine to arrive. In the meantime I give the body a coat of paint. The paintjob is inspired by Roy Johnson's 1970 Dodge Challenger. This iconic vehicle was replicated, in a modern version in 2010, when his son Allen gave him a 2010 Dodge Challenger with a full Mopar Drag Pak trim. I decided to switch the colours on this paintscheme, but use the modern 2013 Mopar colours. The gunmetal, the blue and the white work well with all the original lines, and gives the FG a nice, murdered out look.
This build is going to have a ton of special features, a few of them rather unique, and I will take you through the whole build process step by step so if you want to, you can follow along. Make sure to subscribe to see what the 2WD will turn into, so far I can reveal this much: it will pach a true punch, will represent an icon of it's era, and will be unlike any RC you have ever seen before!

In this video I'm finishing up my Axial Exo Terra buggy. It has been a car that frustrated me during building, but while putting on the upgrades and accessories, I started to develop a soft spot for it. Right out of the box there are several issues that need to be addressed, some of them cosmetic, others essential to ensure durability.
I have swapped out the shocks for some ProLine PowerStroke shortcourse upgrades, as advised by Squirrelod. If you want to visit Squirrel's informative channel, click the following link:

Apart from the shocks, there's a lot of other ProLine gear that I mounted to the car. For example the roofrack and the Renegade rims.

I explain how to paint a "waterdrop effect", a very simple but efficient technique that will make your car stand out from the others on the track.
I have gotten all my parts at TGN Distributing, make sure to visit their homepage to check out the massive line of products they offer. If you are local, in Exeter California drop by Exeter Hobbies, which is their store, where they also have a great indoor offroad track for tenth scale cars, and regular race nights.

In this video I finish up the "Rum Bum Racing" inspired paintscheme on my FG Sportsline 4WD Audi A4 DTM body. I add a few personal touches and explain and show as much as I possibly can about all the steps that need to be taken.
I tell what I use in order to cut the lines on the car, and show you some of the things I bought at my local office supplies store that make it a bit easier to get the job done. There are also quite a few fades going on in the paintscheme, and I will break them down step by step to simplify things in case you would like to do something of this nature yourself.
The Audi A4 DTM body is a 2006 version, I adapted it to look like the facelifted 2009 version by making a few very simple adjustments in the lines. The main differences are the head- and taillights, and the grille area, which are easy to alter slightly to get that up-to-date look, that fits the livery slightly better.

A quick update on the progress on my FG Sportsline Audi A4 DTM body. While waiting for the liquid mask to dry and my paint to come in, I start putting on the design. This particular design is inspired on an actual livery, and I adapt it to ensure it blends in with the lines of my car.

Today I will be washing out the FG Audi A4 DTM shell, scuffing it for proper adhesion in a few areas. I explain how to apply your liquid mask, and show you how to lay on the coats needed. About 4 or 5 coats of liquid mask are needed to protect the lexan, before you start cutting and peeling. I also tell how I like to simplify my design by already ruling out certain parts, which are known factors, such as windows and headlights. The theme I chose for the car is inspired on RumBum Racing liveries, and I think it will stand out nicely on the grid once done.

The car was delivered with the BMW M3 shell, which I painted up in some of my other videos. Apart from the necessary changes to the chassis mounting points, I also installed the optional spoilers and wings, that will add to the realism and give this car the desired, true-to-scale look. It's wise to mount these parts before masking and putting on the design, because it will give you a better understanding of what the car will look like once completed.
The part numbers for the body mounts are:
08013 - Thicker mounts, front
03014/02 - Thinner mounts, back
07013 - Center mounts
The part number for all the wings and spoilers in white plastic:
04154 - Wings and spoilers

I custom cut an Axial Dingo body for my high-lift SCX10 2.2 conversion. I explain how to give the box-shaped Dingo body an old school offroader look by custom cutting the front, show how to mask the car and tell you all there is to know about the order in which to paint your colors. There's a few handy pointers to how to detail your crawler body with painting techniques, such as diamond plating and flatcoating.
I try to cover as much as possible, from marking up the cuts to laying down the paint, and I hope to inspire RC enthusiasts around the world to try out some new stuff on their shells. Simple techniques can be very effective, and you don't need an expensive airbrush setup or a plotter to get results that make your vehicle stand out from the rest!

The "Jeff Koons" painting project on my FG Sportsline BMW M3. I show how to make a few details, like mesh in the grille, and how to use simple techniques to take the detail on your shell to the next level. I also use some flat clear to add some matt details.
I explain how to try and simplify the project by selecting the right colors and doing things one step at a time. I have given liquid mask a try, and it will allowed me to bring the detail that I need to make this car look like the Jeff Koons BMW Art Car.

HPI Venture
A couple of years ago HPI Racing announced their first real trail truck platform, the Venture Toyota FJ Cruiser. Circumstances caused the release to be delayed several times, but after a long wait it is finally here! Many people will wonder if after such a long delay, the truck is still relevant, if it still has a place in a market which is mostly dominated by trucks like the Axial SCX10, the SCX102, the Vaterra Ascender and more recently the Traxxas TRX4. I dare to say that it has. The HPI Venture has some promising features, a very nice chassis layout and comes very complete right from the factory. The weight of the axles impresses me right out of the gate. Cast aluminum shock mounts/ link mounts and diff covers make for a center of gravity which sits nice and low. The Venture features steel C chassis rails, has a 35T brushed motor up front, a waterproof ESC and receiver and feels well balanced overall, with shocks that are of high quality. You will find an aluminum bodied shock absorber which is fully adjustable and dual rated springs. I'm not to keen on the hard tire compound, or the steering servo, but these are all items that will get switched out in the long run anyway. In my opinion HPI enters the RC arena after a long hiatus, with a very good looking contender for the Scale Truck market. Let's hope the spare parts support is as good as it once was, and I think we have a great new option to choose from for those of us who, just like me, like to have fun out on the trails! https://www.hpiracing.com https://www.facebook.com/VentureHPI/
A week and a half ago I visited Amain Hobbies in Chico, California. They have a huge store with an indoor crawler course and an insane assortment in hobby products. I decided to pick up a few parts to address the most important drawbacks that I noticed initially in taking a look at the new HPI Venture. The most important upgrade you can get for your HPI Venture is without a doubt the steering servo. I decided to go with a ProTek RC 370 TBL Black Label waterproof servo. It packs some insane specs and is a crawler specific servo. https://www.amainhobbies.com/protek-r… For weight distributing reasons, I went for a ProTek RC 3S 3600 mAh LIHV battery. This is a new generation of silicon graphene batteries, that holds a charge longer than any conventional LiPo battery. Compact in size, without having to compromize performance. https://www.amainhobbies.com/protek-r… I installed a system which I run in most of my crawlers, the Castle Creations Mamba X with in this case a 2850kV Slate 1406 sensored motor. Delivering some incredible control in any condition, it has an 8A BEC ready installed, an aux wire to allow you to adjust your drag brake on the fly through the third of 4th channel on your radio, and unique in this scale, is a fully hybrid system which switches from sensored into sensorless when the motor RPMs allow, so you run efficient and at peak performance at all times, while being waterproof. https://www.amainhobbies.com/castle-c… I then continued by installing a dual motor RC4WD Warn Zeon winch. It fits well and looks ace! https://www.amainhobbies.com/rc4wd-1-… Next up were the wheels and tires. I opted for some gun metal anodized Vanquish Products Roost 1.9 rims, these are machined aluminum and will add even more weight to these already heavy axles. https://www.amainhobbies.com/vanquish… Next year I want to get a bit more involved in comping. A great tire for this purpose is the Class One PBX A/T, by Pit Bull Tires. The thread on them is extremely scale and they are using the legendary "Alien compound" rubber, meaning they will stick in all conditions and provide the traction you are looking for out on any trail. https://www.amainhobbies.com/pit-bull… In the video I forgot to mention the Dirty Richard foams, in a soft compound, which I installed on all corners. https://www.amainhobbies.com/pit-bull… After the unboxing, I have also repainted the HPI Venture to give it a personalized look. I also installed some Pro-Line Racing lightpods in the front. The code HEMISTORM10 gives you a 10% discount on the www.prolineracing.com website. SIN CITY TOUR
This video is the start of one of my most amazing RC journeys so far! I'm flying out to Las Vegas, to kick off what would be two awesome weeks filled with one crazy experience after the next. RC shops, events, product testing, running footage and everything else you can possibly imagine all smashed into 14 absolutely crazy days. In this episode you see my trip to Las Vegas, the crazy hotels around The Strip, all the jaw dropping lights and performers at Fremont Street and of course we visit some of the most notorious RC shops Sin City has to offer, one of them being HobbyTown and the other one known for their inspiring custom RC work, SIK Rides. Check out SIK Rides and the great work they do on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/sikrides/ Give them a follow on their FaceBook https://www.facebook.com/SIK-Rides-14… Or check out their home page to see what projects they are working on: https://srdlv.com I also had a look at one of the most known local tracks Las Vegas had to offer, 702 RC Raceway. An indoor track with a nice shop, plenty of workspaces to pit your cars and a recently refurbished track that is clean as a whistle. I was there on a practice day, so there was not a lot of action, but plenty of time to have a look around and get a good feel for the place. It's very well organised.
This video is the second part of one of my most amazing RC journeys so far! I'm in Las Vegas, for two awesome weeks filled with one crazy experience after the next. RC shops, events, product testing, running footage and everything else you can possibly imagine all smashed into 14 absolutely crazy days. In this episode you see I'm heading into the Logandale Desert to meet up with the people who took part in the Camo Trophy Experience organised by Jim Rowe from RockNRoweRC, assisted by a great group of guys in the process. I met up with Jose too, better known as Ferndogg310. Jose makes great movies and has one hell of an excellent playground right next door. In this episode you see I'm heading into Calico right west of Las Vegas to meet up with the people who took part in the Camo Trophy Experience organised by Jim Rowe from RockNRoweRC, assisted by a great group of guys in the process. Tons of familiar looking faces out there, like Brian from Exclusive RC and Desmond from Pitbull tires. Also present was a group of fanatics from Canada, seeing how they made the drive out here explains their love for RC. One of them you will surely know, Chris Rappel who runs a really cool channel that's worth checking out. Find Chris Rappel's videos here: https://www.youtube.com/user/CWR2011RC You can find more information about Pitbull tires and other RC products here: http://www.pbxrc.com And have a look at what creative products come from Brian Almeida's mind by having a look at the Exclusive RC website: http://www.exclusive-rc.com Check out the full playlist and keep an eye out for videos to come.

RC shops, events, product testing, running footage and everything else you can possibly imagine all smashed into 14 absolutely crazy days. I'm on my way to shoot a video in a place where no RC has ever been: The Havasupai Reservation in Supai, Arizona. Fun fact: if you ask directions how to get to Supai, you will get none. There is a 60 mile long dead end road leading you to the trail head, a path you need to follow for 10 miles before you actually reach the village. It is an undertaking, but well worth it. And with it being so remote, an amazing spot to test some new products in all privacy. Check out the full playlist and keep an eye out for videos to come. If you haven't subscribed yet, please do. It's free. NO PayPal, NO Patreon and especially no GoFundme bullshit. I hate those.

There is a 60 mile long dead end road leading you to the trail head, a path you need to follow for 10 miles before you actually reach the village. It is an undertaking, but well worth it. And with it being so remote, an amazing spot to test some new products in all privacy. The Bomber was a testing vehicle for Castle's new Mamba X, and a variety of different KV ratings for soon to be released Sensored motors. It is great to see Castle make a splash in the crawler, scaler and Ultra 4 market, and it has been a privilege to be a part of the testing.
I'm in Las Vegas, for two awesome weeks filled with one crazy experience after the next. RC shops, events, product testing, running footage and everything else you can possibly imagine all smashed into 14 absolutely crazy days. Axial SMT10 Grave Digger
Sure Traxxas has made an attempt to replicate the Monster Jam feel when they had the license to replicate these awesome machines in the tenth scale, but Axial actually hits it out of the park with this solid axle-based SMT10.

Axial RR10 Bomber Kit
I love building kits, and no different in the case of the already very popular Axial Bomber. The Ready to Run version did look very appealing, however I am quite happy to have waited for the Kit Version of the RR10 to get released, as choosing my own electronics and colour scheme does have my preference. And as per usual, Axial Racing kits come with a number of upgrades that you will not find in the RTR versions.
I can be very brief about my first thoughts: This thing is f#cking awesome.
More info can be found here: http://www.axialracing.com/products/a…

I recently put together my Axial Bomber kit and painted the panels that come with it. I wanted a bit more surface and threw on a Ford F100 body made by Proline Racing, intended to be used on the Axial SCX10 with the Honcho rear cage. If you hack it up a bit, it is a perfect fit to the Bomber RR10 cage. It doesn't even require body clips to stay in place!
Don't be afraid that using tape stands in the way of putting some pretty detailed designs in your paint scheme. A steady hand and a lot of patience go a long way!

Pioneertown, California. As good as it gets in the desert. I took the UltraFord Axial RR10 Bomber for a spin, kick up roosts, clouds of dust, the suspension soaking up the jumps. This Rock Racer never ceases to amaze me with its capabilities and the amount of abuse it takes.
Powered by a Castle Creations Mamba X, combined with a Castle 1406 3800kV Slate Series motor, it has tons of torque and speed, the Vanquish Method rims transferring all the power to the insanely grippy Proline Hyrax 2.2 tires. And of course rocking the classic Proline Ford F100 SCX10 Honcho body.

San Francisco, California, right under the towering heights of the Golden Gate Bridge, with in the distance the faint contours of Alcatraz, the most notorious prison in history. If anything makes for a great post apocalyptic backdrop, it is this type of scenery. Finally, I'm taking my FG Dragster out for a testrun. The dragster is powered by a BZM 28.5 Torque Tuned engine which I dropped in a FG Sportsline 2WD. I've converted my Sportsline chassis to a 1970's Dodge Challenger, with lots of custom parts. In the video series you will be able to follow this build from the very start, to the point where it will finally start burning some rubber!
The custom servo setup works great, the BZM has massive torque, and I love running this scaled down muscle car! A few alterations will be made in the future, such as a bit thicker diff oil, and perhaps a different clutch to make it engage a bit more aggressively. For a first run, I was more than satisfied and this ride is everything I hoped it to be.
Today I'm doing something COMPLETELY different, so this video may not be for you. This video is NOT about RC, but if you want to see one of my other great passions, feel free to watch.
I'm building a playhouse for our 5 year old twin girls. I'm their "bonus-dad" and living in Norway, on a large plot gave me the opportunity to construct them their own little cabin. We live out in the woods, and despite there being a lot of trees, there was no suitable tree large enough to make a treehouse. So I mixed it up a bit: The house is built on top of a rock, and mounted on 4 large stilts. I try to explain as much as possible about the process of taking on a project like this, and try to give you a few tips on where you could save a bit of money. The materials used add up to around 1200 dollars, but all depends on size of the playhouse and what you can get your hands on to recuperate.
I think it's important to stimulate creativity and being outdoors as well as kids having their own little cosy place, and apart from building your kids something nice you can end up with a nice accessory for your garden.
I'm taking my Axial Yeti XL out for it's first run on 6S, and I'm taking it to the quarry in my hometown Halden. I'm pretty confident I will get some nice speed and good runtime from the Dinogy batteries combined with the Castle Mamba Monster 2. I am using two 11,1V 5000 mAh packs to get a good feel for the car and see how it behaves on the rocky surfaces.
The electronics I'm running are a proven set up: the Castle Creations Mamba Monster 2 2200KV combo.
It delivers some decent torque, good speed and has good hold power, basically everything required to get those huge rims to point in the right direction.
http://hitecrcd.com/products/servos/p…
The final thing on my list was wiring and connecting the assembly. After years of Deans connectors and being a bit fed up with shrink tubing, I have gotten some Castle wiring, and more importantly some 6.5mm Castle Connectors for the Yeti XL. I believe Castle Creations has struck gold with these, as they are easy to solder up, don't require any shrink tubing and have huge bullet connectors to deal with massive current. After installing them on the Yeti XL, I think the Castle Connectors will find their way into all of my electric rides. Stack up on solder when you get them, as they require quite a bit to get fully secured.

I'm delivering a fully custom built 10th scale model of his real vehicle to my good friend Magne. To make things a bit more interesting he shows how easily his 2014 C7 Corvette (fully modded to 2015 specs) MURDERS a set of bespoke tires.
In this video you see a New Bright model that's been fully stripped, shaved, all imperfections removed, 18 coats of paint, too many custom upgrades to even start listing.
"Wildone" as the C7 'Vette is called does three burnouts, hearing that engine roar is always a great experience.
Today I took my 10th scale Axial Yeti out to see what it does on a set of Proline Racing Sand Paws: it was AWESOME! Formula Offroad!

A direct quote from the description by Axial Racing:
Now in kit form, the Yeti™ is a skillfully engineered rock racing vehicle with a solid rear axle and independent front suspension. Its distinct aesthetic and technical elements were inspired by full-size desert trucks. Its strategically engineered design supplies bashing stamina while delivering a high level of technical rock racing abilities without compromise in either category. This kit version will accept standard 1/10th scale brushed and brushless 4-pole systems and most major stick pack batteries. Precision machined aluminum shocks are standard equipment and deliver smooth suspension movement for consistent handling.
I'm taking you along on one of my most exciting RC experiences to date! Castle Creations invited me to bring out my Axial Yeti XXL to Costa Mesa, California for RCX 2016. Along the way I met up with old friends, made new friends and came home with a suitcase of memories that I will treasure forever. I documented the entire journey from start to finish and hope you enjoy seeing where passion can take you, the doors it opens and how being connected through following dreams can get you wrapped up in situations you aren't likely to forget anytime soon.
It has been a long time coming! A long build, but well worth it. After months of building and waiting for parts, lots of think work and even traveling to the other side of the world to have it on display at the Castle booth at RCX, it is time for a test run. Taking it easy to make sure everything work as planned, I take the Axial Yeti XXL out to the quarry. The past few days it has rained and there's puddles and mud all over the place, perfect to see how the two Castle Creations Mamba Monster X setups will handle the additional weight when I combined two Axial Yeti XL kits to build a twin motor four seater!
I need to ease the throttle when pulling away to avoid the Pitbull tires ripping themselves apart from the Vanquish rims. The Vanquish rear axle ensures I will have no gear failures with the 6 cells powering just the rear wheels. The XXL handles like a dream and stays very stabile under load, torque twist is barely noticeable with the double shocks and sway bar installed in the rear. The light are from Proline Racing, and they are easy to install and very effective. Many more running videos to come!

Couldn't break it, didn't catch fire. The remote sucks ass. Overall, had fun! :)
It had to happen at some stage! I have added a Traxxas vehicle to my fleet, the X-Maxx. Over the past couple of months the X-Maxx has proven to be one of the most popular new releases, and for the first time ever I'm quite intrigued. That could of course also be due to its size. I love large scale trucks and having an electric Monster Truck in a big scale seems like a lot of fun.
No RTR RC car is without flaws, and the same goes for the Traxxas X-Maxx. After its initial release a lot of them went up in flames by having the ESC catch fire. There are a few more things that I don't really like about the car, but rest assured that goes for every radio controlled car I have ever owned. The overall impression is good, the car seems to be well put together and after I have determined what I'm going to keep and what I will ditch, I'm sure that the X-Maxx will be a very nice car for me to have some fun with during the summer months.
I'm going to run the X-Maxx on some HUGE capacity batteries made by MaxAmps. I have two 3 cell, 11.1 Volt 9000 mAh batteries, that should give me some great runtimes and a great punch off the line.
Plans that I already have for this thing, 8S, Mamba XLX by Castle Creations combined with the 2028 motor. It only makes sense. New body with a fresh paint scheme. And perhaps you guys can come up with even more. Let me know!
I got this car at GDX.no, their website is getting updated daily, so keep an eye out for fresh deals and new products being added. http://gdx.no

EvolVillainRC did an excellent job of writing them down in a very detailed and accurate blog, if you are into crawling, scaling and trailing I suggest you bookmark this site as it is filled with great information: http://scaleandtrail.com/review-axial…

Ford Mustang [HOONICORN]

Kahn Defender D90 - RC4WD Gelande 2
The start of a new project for the wintermonths! I'm building my own scaled down version of the ULTIMATE offroad vehicle, the Land Rover Defender. To get started on this, I purchased a RC4WD Gelände 2, a great base with most of the parts that I will require for this build.
A few months ago, I did my first attempt at painting up a hard body RC, with the Toyota HiLux body that came with my RC4WD TrailFinder II. It was a nice way for me to experiment with painting such a shell, but I didn't quite feel like I used the shell to its full potential. After reading up on several forums about true scaling, I have developed an interest for styrene building. Some members on these forums use styrene to build their bodies from scratch! I'm not going to start out too ambitious, but I do feel that with the Land Rover Defender D90 body, I have a great base to make my own alterations, using styrene and filler to get the shell looking the way I want before paint.
Here are some of the main forums that I visit to get inspired for my scale build. Don't hesitate to join and ask questions, the people on these forums are very friendly and helpful, regardless of the skill level you possess.

I'm also using a variety of brand in accessories to get my Defender as scale looking as possible. TGN Distributing is the place where I shop for my needs, both crawler related and for my large scale RC supplies. The range of scale products is getting broader by the day, and TGN Distributing carries some amazing brands. Not just RC4WD, but also a new brand called Arches RC. This build will take time, so in between I will focus on my usual paintwork as well, on lexan bodies. I think it's nice to have a "longer" project on my hands, and look forward to slowly but surely getting and making parts for my ride during winter. If you are curious about the build, the result, the missteps along the way (I'm sure there will be plenty), make sure to hit the subscribe button. I've started something new to me: styrene building! Using styrene sheets rods, pipes and scraps I'm creating my own ultimate version of the Land Rover Defender, the Kahn designed beefed up version of the original. Larger fenders, a bulkier hood, and tons of custom touches will be scaled down to try making my model look like the 4x4 beast that the Kahn is. In this episode I show you my start, and I hope to take away any insecurity that people might feel when trying new aspects of the hobby. There is a ton of stuff to learn in RC, and styrene building is a nice new element for me to enjoy the hobby even more than I already am.

Today I'm making a custom grille and some alternative headlight clusters for my Kahn Defender, based on a RC4WD Gelande 2.

Today I'm showing you a real cool trick I found on one of the amazing forums listed below: cutting plastic without any tools, using nothing but some simple thread!
After four months I finally have the last parts for my Gelande 2 build in. I was waiting for these bumpers and other extras to make sure I could fully complete the prepwork to the hard body of this Land Rover Defender which I'm turning into a Kahn Design Defender. Not only did I get the RC4WD ARB front bumper, I also got the Mojave clear parts tree and the "chrome" parts tree for the Mojave, which will allow me to fit some lights in the front bumper. I also ordered a Viking fairlead to go along with the Bulldog winch which I also installed. Along with the steering guard underneath the chassis the front is beefed up to the level I wanted.
The rear can't stay behind with all these alterations, so I went ahead and got a RC4WD Survivor rear bumper, which comes with a hitch. In addition I got two sets of mudflaps, one for the Survivor bumper, and one for the custom styrene inner fenders which I made for the front. Some King Kong tow shackles complete the look for the rear and make it look well balanced.
The following parts were used in this video, all of them available from tgndistributing.com:
RC4WD ARB Front Bumper - Z-S0853
RC4WD Survivor Rear Bumper - Z-S0698
RC4WD Mudflaps - Z-S0890
King Kong Tow Shackle - Z-S0093
Mojave Clear Parts Tree - Z-B0026
Mojave Chrome Parts Tree - Z-B0027
Viking Fairlead - Z-S0404

HPI Baja - Extreme Build
Today I will show you my HPI Baja. I'm almost done with the rebuild, apart from filling the shocks and switching the headkit the car is back to life!
My Baja started out as the SS kit version, and has been quite heavily modified over the years. I purchased the car in 2008, and spent lots of time to get it to the point where it is today. A variety of upgrades are in place, made by companies like Kraken, Gabe Brown Engineering, Turtle Racing, DarkSoul and of course HemiStorm.
I explain which upgrades I installed where, show you some real one off modifications like the GBE Endbleed pipe that I'm fitting, and show a few pictures of what my car has looked like over the years. The HPI Baja was my first 5th scale RC, and I've gotten to know a tremendous amount of people through the forums. Some people have become real close friends of mine. Check out BajaAddicts.com if you want to talk about and know more about the HPI Baja.
In the last episode I've showed off my HPI Baja and gave some info on the upgrades I run. Today I'm trying out a few new things: the Kraken Class 1 cage is not supposed to fit with the Pro-Line Baja Bug body, and I want to know if I can make it fit. The Pro-Line Beetle body I have has seen some better days. There's a crack going on in the rear section, where that boxer engine is molded in. I never really liked that part, so that is going to get hacked off first. There's also a lot of scuffmarks and scratches on the body, and apart from restoring the shell to it's original shine, I'm also going to touch up the paint and add more detail to it.
I love the early beach bug VolksWagens, and how some of those Beetles evolved into full-blooded desert racers, ready for the Baja 1000. I explain how in a few simple steps you can create just that look for your HPI Baja, turning it into a mean 5th scale classic.
