A married couple and their three children move into a new home and begin experiencing paranormal events. The family eventually learns that their son, Dalton, has the ability to astral travel and had fallen into a purgatory dimension called "The Further." The family contacts a psychic and her paranormal investigators to help, and Josh, the father, travels to The Further to save Dalton. He returns to the physical world with Dalton, but is possessed by the evil spirit of an old woman. The family celebrates their victory, but Renai discovers the truth when she sees a photo of Josh and finds the psychic dead.

A 1986 demonologist, Elise Rainier, helps a family whose son Josh is being haunted by the spirit of an old woman. Elise's arm is slashed by an unseen force during the investigation and she convinces the family to suppress Josh's astral projection abilities and alter his memories. 25 years later, Josh's wife is questioned about Elise's death and the family moves back to Lorraine's house where they experience strange paranormal events. Specs and Tucker find a video of the 1986 investigation and discover an adult Josh standing behind young Josh.

The group goes to an abandoned hospital and discovers the story of a patient named Parker Crane who was a serial killer known as "The Bride in Black". Josh's body begins to deteriorate and he is revealed to be possessed by Parker. In the spirit realm, Josh and the others find Parker's house where they witness Parker's mother abusing him and forcing him to kill his victims. Elise destroys Michelle's spirit, freeing Josh. Some time later, Specs and Tucker arrive at another house with a girl in a coma, and Elise's spirit passes between them to the girl's room, where she is confronted by an unseen figure.

A teenager named Quinn seeks help from retired demonologist Elise to contact her deceased mother. Elise senses a malevolent force but agrees to help. After experiencing paranormal phenomena, Sean convinces Elise to help with the investigation. Along with Specs and Tucker, they enter the spiritual world and find that the dark spirit is hunting them. Elise fights the evil spirit, discovers it's disguised as her husband, and rescues Quinn. Lily's spirit helps Quinn defeat the "Man Who Can't Breathe" and Elise, Specs, and Tucker form a partnership. Elise returns home happy but is soon attacked by a demon with a red face.

Elise Rainier, a paranormal investigator, investigates a house in California which turns out to be her childhood home in Five Keys, New Mexico. There she meets her brother Christian, who is still angry at her for abandoning him, and his daughters Melissa and Imogen. While investigating, Elise discovers her father and the house's owner Ted were both kidnappers and killers of women, who were held prisoner in the house. Elise and Imogen enter the Further and find Melissa and the souls of the kidnapped women, who were being controlled by Key Face, a demon who feeds on fear and hatred. With the help of her mother's spirit and Imogen, Elise defeats Key Face, saves Melissa, and makes amends with her brother and mother. In the end, Elise receives a call from Lorraine and agrees to help her grandson Dalton who is being haunted by a demon.
