They are hired by a contractor, who is responsible for managing the overall project. Subcontractors are typically specialized in a particular trade or discipline, such as electrical work, plumbing, or carpentry. They are usually hired on a per-project basis and are not considered employees of the contractor or the owner of the construction project.
