Jennifer observes a pattern of burglaries occurring in affluent residences following garage sales, with one instance resulting in a fatal accident. However, she suspects that the death was not an accident. She persuades Detective Adam Iverson to accompany her to some of these sales, where they discover potential suspects for the burglaries. Nonetheless, they fail to find any leads to the murder. Eventually, Jennifer manages to identify the killer.
Jennifer Shannon possesses a talent for identifying rare and valuable items at garage sales that she can resell at her consignment store, Rags to Riches. When her friend and owner of a self-storage facility, Martin, is murdered shortly after auctioning off an abandoned storage unit filled with unique possessions, Jennifer becomes a crucial witness in the investigation. Together with Detective Lynwood, she singles out a dissatisfied customer as the main suspect, while she and her business partner, Danielle, examine the auctioned boxes. As her husband Jason worries for her safety, Jennifer's store is robbed, and she has a confrontation with Martin's angry widow. Jennifer and Danielle eventually uncover the glittery evidence they need to implicate the surprising real culprit, and they must hurry to save a life while risking their own.
While sifting through a box of clothing purchased at an estate sale, Jennifer discovers a valuable yet antiquated wedding dress. After a 35-year separation, Helen and Ted rekindle their romance.

Upon investigating Sandra's barn, where she stores extra antiques in Madison, Jennifer discovers a basement filled with beautiful antiquities, including the body of Sandra's former fiancé, Michael Chambers, who vanished two years earlier, causing Sandra to believe he left her for another woman. Sheriff Conners spearheads the ensuing investigation, and Jennifer must uncover the truth to prove Sandra's innocence. Along the way, Jennifer meets Kimberly Colette Baumaine, a recent widow who brings her late husband's antiques to Jennifer's store, which help Jennifer connect the dots.
A sequence of murders mimicking popular mystery novels occurs, beginning with the killing of Art Henley, whose death echoes Agatha Christie's Three Act Tragedy. Next, Gerry McNally is murdered, following Arthur Conan Doyle's A Study in Scarlet. Thirdly, Myles Fowler's murder is somewhat similar to the mystery novel The Circular Staircase.
Anne's husband Steve is found dead at an isolated beach, and despite authorities concluding that his death was a result of accidental drowning, Anne believes that he was murdered. The prime suspect, Steve's brother Todd, comes into the spotlight when Steve's business partner Mitch is also attacked, only to be found dead later. The case becomes more perplexing as the clues don't add up. When she finally locates Kendahl Hartman, who had disappeared after Dr. Vedders' death, Kendahl is also found dead. Jennifer and Detective Lynwood race to solve the case before Jennifer becomes the next victim.

Soon after the box goes missing, some members of the Andronicus family die under mysterious circumstances. Intrigued, Jennifer decides to conduct her own investigation into the deaths in a way that is not conventional.
