We come across so many flat signs on a daily basis, but how many can you recall? None, are they? Now visualize a sign that protrudes from the wall, catching light and creating a slight shadow. Such a sign is easy to remember.

This is the reason why more and more organizations are opting for 3D signage. The effect created by such signs grabs attention quickly. As we at Blackline Packaging deal with brands that are concerned about their image and signs, here is a straightforward explanation of why 3D signs do this and how to create the same.

3D signage includes signs that have raised letters or shapes that protrude outward from the surface. Such signs are made from acrylic, metals, wood, foam, and PVC.

Such signs can be as simple as a line of alphabet letters on the reception area wall. They could also be complex with layers of colors and illumination.

People have very fast depth perception. This is why a raised logo will always attract more attention than a print logo.

Another thing is that these signs change throughout the day. In the morning, sunlight will affect them in one way, while in the evening, it will affect them in another way. This makes the shadows change.

This creates an element of interest in the signs for even the regular passersby. Another reason is the factor of credibility that a good sign provides.

Among all the materials, however, 3D acrylic signs are chosen most often. They appear sleek and stylish. Also, 3D acrylic signs suit virtually any environment, whether it is a dental surgery or a large corporate office.

Acrylic enables the creation of extremely sharp and clean cuts. It is possible to color it easily, and multiple layers can be put together to build up more volume. Acrylic is far lighter than metal and, therefore, simple to mount. Acrylic always retains its glossiness without much upkeep.

Its main uses include wall decorations in receptions, doors to meeting rooms, and branding.

Even when it is created flawlessly, it may still seem like it doesn't fit. Good 3D Signage Design should begin with the preparation that precedes any cuts.

What should be considered?

Always ask for a mockup. Viewing the sign yourself, installed on your own wall, but as a computer graphic, helps you avoid expensive mistakes.
