Drukgyel Dzong is located to the north of Paro town at a place known as Drukgyel. The dozing is known as the "Victorious Fortress of Drukpa" and was constructed in 17th Century to commemorate the victory of Bhutan over it foes.
The fortress is a world heritage site and has been renovated in 2017 as it was lost to fire in 1900s. While visiting the fortress one can see many watch towers and hidden tunnels around the fortress which showcases the Bhutanese defense system of 17th century.
