Access and other details to consider The only way to reach Lake Toya is by bus or car as there is no direct railway connection. The best way to get to the lake would be by taking the special express train to JR Muroran-honsen Station and take a taxi or bus from there to Toyako. Alternatively if you are planning to stay at one of the lake’s onsen then it is very likely they are able to offer you a shuttle bus service from Sapporo or Chintose Airport. Since the trip by train and bus is rather expensive, it is definitely worthwhile to consider staying at a seemingly more expensive onsen with complimentary shuttle bus service. In our case an all-inclusive stay at one of the onsen with shuttle bus service was only slightly more than a cheap alternative without one.
