Ontario has a law that you must first obtain G1 and G2 licenses. Each license has entrance tests and requirements. After using the G1 for 8-12 months, you are eligible to take the exam to obtain a G2 license.

Possession of a G2 license lasts for 1 year. After that, you'll pass the second road test and receive a G license with all driving privileges.
