Before The Interview

Analyze the job description

Thoroughly research the organization you're interviewing with, the industry, the interviewer, and the job itself

Prepare and practice for the interview without memorizing or over-rehearsing your answers

Visualize yourself going through the full interview experience and performing magnificently

Ask for good directions and/or search for a map/directions from an Internet map site

Plan interview attire that is appropriate for the job, the company, and the industry

Prepare your own questions about the job or the company

Pack emergency-repair items I might need such as:

1. Extra pair of pantyhose

2. Spot-remover wipes

3. Tissues

4. Comb and brush

5. Hairspray or gel

6. Makeup for touchups

7. Breath mints

8. An umbrella

9. Extra copies of resume (In case you have more than one interviewer)

10. Career portfolio

Get a good night's sleep

Timeline
Interview Day

Arrive about 10 minutes early

Greet the receptionist or assistant with courtesy and respect and make a good first impression

Greet the interviewer with a big smile and call him or her by his or her title (Ms., Mr., Dr.) and last name

Not chew gum during the interview

Shake hands firmly and avoid a limp or clammy handshake

Make good eye contact with the interviewer(s).

Show enthusiasm about the position and the company

Write thank-you letters within 24 hours to each person who interviewed you
