What to do in one Weekend in Gyeongju, South Korea - A Checklist
Gyeongju is a city not far from Seoul, South Korea. It can be reached in about two hours via the KTX. However, it's a unique place that visitors should definitely check out. In this travel list, I set off to explore this ancient city and see why it's called 'the museum without walls. First I check out Daereungwon Tomb Complex. This is one of the most famous places in the city of Gyeongju.
Then it's time to check out a Korean traditional market to try some unique foods including some famous Korean fried chicken. Then it's time to check out Bulguksa - a Buddhist temple that is home to some ancient stone pagodas and is one of the most visited places in the city. I finally end by checking out the famous pink muhly grass and try some dak gochi - skewered chicken.

Daereungwon Tomb Complex (Cheonmachong)
Cheonmachong is a huge historical place in Gyeongju with ancient artifacts. It remains an important source of valuable information regarding the history of the Silla Dynasty.
Bulguksa
A Buddhist temple that was built during 1751 and the most visited in Gyeongju. This temple is still a worshipping place so make sure to be respectful when visiting this place.
Donggung Palace
The Donggung Palace is a secondary palace used by a king during the Silla Dynasty. A sight to visit during the day but this is more beautiful during night.

Local Markets
I highly recommend visiting local markets to fully experience authentic korean foods. The local markets has so much choices that will surely make you undecided on which food to try first!
Yangnyeom Chicken
A popular chicken dish that has a sweet and spicy flavor. Super delicious!
Dakgochi (Skewered Chicken)
A grilled chicken on a stick. One of my favorite street foods with different flavors and sauces to choose from.
Jungang Night Market
A night market that has a live band for people to check out and has lots of food choices, from korean dishes to other international dishes.

Pink Muhly
A super famous place not only for tourists but also for locals. People come here to take good photos behind the Pink Muhly. Make sure to visit this place early in the morning before it gets too crowded.
Bird Park
Enjoy interacting with different bird species in this park. Definitely a fun and great experience for the whole family!
Botanical Garden
A relaxing place surrounded by a lot of trees and plants.
