  • A day before moving, call and follow up the arrival time of your moving company

  • Arrange and get your child's school records

  • Buy all packing materials needed

  • Compile and keep all your personal records together and label them carefully

  • Establish a file of all your quotes, receipts and similar papers and documents together

  • Find out the current and future events in your new hometown

  • Get expensive objects appraised prior to moving them into your new house incase moving company damaged your goods

  • Get quotes from moving companies in advance and ask the price inclusions and exclusions

  • Sell/whrow out items you dont need anymore

  • Have somebody to take care of your small children during moving day

  • If necessary, hire a storage company for temporary storage of your belongings

  • If you are travelling by car, ask your mechanic to check your car before moving to your new home

  • If you have pets, find movers if necessary

  • If you have pets, provide them with all the necessary vaccines to prevent possible local diseases

  • Disconnect electric outlets before you leave

  • Inquire about property restrictions with the local authorities in your new neighborhood

  • Inquire and prepare all necessary permits before moving.

  • Inquire how much insurance company will cover in case your belongings get damaged during the move

  • Make a list of all your household goods in old house

  • Reregister your car if moving interstate

  • Change address of your service bills

  • Put important supplies and items in your hand bag

  • Ensure your new home is ready prior to your arrival: prepare and check all paintings, plumbing and electrical connections

  • Memorize the locations of necessary institutions (banks, hospitals, police station, etc.) in your new area of residence

  • Request a floor plan of your new home before moving
