Governor Ratcliffe
Governor Ratcliffe is a fictional character from the Disney animated movie "Pocahontas." He is the main antagonist of the film, and is based on the real-life historical figure Captain John Smith's adversary, Governor John Ratcliffe. In the film, he leads an expedition from England to the New World in search of gold, but becomes obsessed with finding it and ultimately provoking a war with the Native Americans. He is depicted as greedy, arrogant, and ruthless, willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. He is also shown to be intolerant of the Native American culture, and sees them as inferior to the Europeans. Despite his villainous nature, Governor Ratcliffe is a complex character who serves as a commentary on the destructive nature of colonialism and imperialism.
